In 1990, when Tony first visited Thailand, the southern islands of the Andaman Coast were little known vacation destinations. Today, it is quite challenging to find a beach on these islands which is not overrun with package tourists. Even places labeled "off the beaten track" only a couple of years ago are now littered with bars, sunbeds, restaurants and noisy long-tail boats.
Amazingly, despite the tourist circus, we did manage to find ourselves some stunning beaches. Sometimes, they were literally just around the corner, other times, we had to really work hard to find them. Yes, Thailand is pretty much saturated, but if you swim that extra mile, you can still find a piece of paradise. We certainly did.
